Roulette Rules: Easy But Must Know
According to roulette history, this casino game had been originated in France in the end of the 17th century; it is a really interesting and exciting game of chance which is possible to meet at every casino today. To try playing roulette and beating it, every player should definitely know all roulette rules and follow them. One can easily try it on by visiting some of the great gambling rooms. Certainly, every person who chooses roulette as his/her favorite one to play has own secrets of how to win roulette but basic roulette rules are to be learned and remembered.
Your main goal as a player is to guess what number of the roulette wheel will win after the ball lands. Well, it sounds easy, is not it? So, it is not surprising why roulette is called to be the game of luck: you should be a really lucky person in order to be able to predict which of 37 (38) numbers will be the choice of a small roulette ball.
All players have their own secrets of how to predict the result: some of them believe their lucky numbers, other ones bet the number that did not come up for a long time; some players bet on more than one number in order to increase their chances for winning; there are also players who believe that various roulette systems really work, and they use different strategies and methods for that.
Make your bets
There are usually up to 8 players at the roulette table, and they are played against the casino; one dealer (a croupier) takes part in a game: s/he spins the wheel and observes bets and payouts. Every player makes one bet or some bets on a particular number, the group of numbers or outside bets - and a dealer spins the roulette wheel.
After the ball has almost stopped, a player has no right to change or add a bet (a dealer announces this moment); players make their bets with the help of special colorful chips: if a player wins, s/he changes chips for special valued chips which are exchanged for real money in the end of the game.
There are some small differences between European and American Roulette wheels: if you play European Roulette, you can bet on 1-36 and 0; if you play American Roulette, you can bet on 1-36, 0 and 00.
So, as you can see, it is very easy to remember the main points of how to play roulette: learn the types of roulette bet you can make, house advantage and payouts you will have in a case of winning.
There are also two special rules a player should know:
- En Prison - when you make a bet on even-money and the result is 0, some casinos let you make a choice: to take a half of your bet back or leave this bet for the next round. If there is 0 again, the whole your bet will be lost.
- La Partage - the same with En Prison but it concerns outside bets: you have a choice to take a half of your bet back or leave this bet for the next round in a case the result is 0.
The more numbers you choose for your bet - the less money you will have in a case of winning; let's have a look at the following table which shows the payouts a player receives for different types of bets.
|A bet||The name of this bet||Payout|
|One-number bet||Straight-up bet||35 to 1|
|Two-number bet||Split bet||17 to 1|
|Three-number bet||Street bet||11 to 1|
|Four-number bet||Corner bet||8 to 1|
|Six-number bet||-||5 to 1|
|Outside dozen/column||-||2 to 1|
|Outside even money||-||1 to 1|
There are actually 2 main types of bets you can make at roulette: inside and outside bets.
