In terms of popularity, Roulette is one of the fastest growing casino games around. It has always been popular in casinos, but much the same as happened with Poker over the last decade the television broadcast of Roulette has led to an astonishing leap in popularity. Chances are that if you're watching it on the TV, playing Live Roulette online, or even if you're playing it in the casino, you probably aren't that sure about the differences between the various versions of the game.
The rules are the same, no matter which version you are playing. The players place their bets in cells on a table. The cells all represent a number on the roulette wheel. If the number you have put money on comes out as the winner when the wheel is spun then you win chips according to the amount you put down, the number of bets you placed and the degree of difficulty the bet was worth. If you bet that it will be a black number you will get less than if you vote on the number twenty three specifically.
The difference comes in at the amount of numbers to vote on. Both games have thirty six different numbers that the players can bet on. In European roulette there is a thirty seventh number; the number 0. If this comes up it means that the house wins the pot. In American rules there are two extra numbers; a zero and a double zero, bringing the total of numbers to thirty eight. So the odds of winning in both games are one in thirty-six. But the odds of losing it all are much higher in American roulette. So the UK probably prefer European rules and unless you like a much higher risk, you probably prefer it too.
